Solutions as individual as our customers

SPS 2026 (November 24–26) in Nuremberg is AMKmotion’s most important trade show of the year. At Booth 210 in Hall 4, the developer and manufacturer of electric drive systems will be presenting its expanded and optimized portfolio. The focus will be on customized solutions, high power density and decentralized drive technology for energy-efficient, compact machine and system concepts.

The convection-cooled SKT hollow shaft motors are suitable for applications involving high axial forces. They operate quietly and offer a high degree of integration.

“Our core expertise lies in understanding applications in such depth that our solutions can be optimally tailored to each customer’s requirements,” says Alexander Hipp, Director Sales & Customer Solution Center at AMKmotion. The company works closely with its customers’ development teams from the concept phase onward to take full advantage of customization options at an early stage. AMKmotion brings together all of its development and production expertise in-house.

“We build on our standard portfolio and tailor our solutions specifically to the application,” explains Fabian Georg, Global Key Account Manager at AMKmotion. The software, housing and cooling concept can all be customized, as can the motor’s shaft, bearing configuration, encoder, brake, interfaces and winding. This also affects the design of the converter. “For machine manufacturers, this can have a positive impact on installation space, cabling, switch cabinet size and energy requirements, and therefore on overall costs,” says Georg. “This level of customization is a clear unique selling point.”

Among the products AMKmotion will be showcasing are the hollow shaft synchronous servo motors of the SKT series. Suitable for applications involving high axial forces, these operate quietly and offer a high degree of integration. For example, a manufacturer of special machines has equipped its servo-electric CNC metal spinning machines with SKT motors. The screw nut is connected directly to the motor hollow shaft, eliminating the need for belts and couplings. This makes the design more compact, rigid and precise, while the motor accommodates the axial forces directly.

“The SKT 10 is customized for each application in close cooperation with the design engineers,” explains Stefan Hildebrandt, Customer Account Manager at AMKmotion. “The optimized winding can reduce operating currents and thermal loads while improving efficiency in continuous operation.”

Increased dynamics and efficiency

Another product on display is the newly developed DIP synchronous servo motor. AMKmotion offers it in convection-cooled or liquid-cooled versions, depending on the requirements. The DIP combines high dynamic performance, power density and efficiency with a compact design. The liquid-cooled version is used when particularly high dynamic performance and power are required. Compared with conventional solutions on the market, it delivers up to 30% greater acceleration and up to 32% higher maximum torque. With an efficiency of up to 97%, the DIP is one of the most efficient servo motors in its power class. An optimized magnetic circuit provides up to 20% more torque at the same current. It is used in highly dynamic applications, including punching and cutting, servo pumps, and conveying, packaging and injection molding systems.

AMKmotion will also be presenting the decentralized iC servo converter – a solution with an integrated 5 kW power supply unit. The iC can be used as a standalone unit and serves as a power supply when additional servo inverters are connected in a daisy chain. Only an unshielded supply cable is required for the AC-side grid connection. This simplifies electrical installation. A version with FSoE is also available as an option. The iC series is designed to meet the requirements of the Cyber Resilience Act. In addition, the AIPEX engineering tool supports configuration, parameterization and diagnostics.

Using braking energy throughout the system

At SPS, visitors can also learn how centralized and decentralized drive technology can be combined to create continuous, energy-efficient system solutions. “The KHY hybrid distributor connects centralized KE/KW systems and decentralized drives to a common DC bus, allowing braking energy to be used throughout the system,” explains Volker Schwarzkopf, Product Manager at AMKmotion. Central energy storage modules can also be used in the KE/KW system. They increase the capacity of the DC bus and allow energy to be stored temporarily. This allows power supply units to be designed with lower ratings, eliminates the need for larger brake resistors and enables short-term power peaks to be covered using the stored energy.

With KES units featuring energy recovery capability, the energy generated during braking is fed back into the power grid instead of being converted into heat. A small brake resistor is required only in the event of a power outage or fault. This reduces power requirements, power loss and heat generation, thereby reducing cooling requirements. For decentralized and hybrid concepts, AMKmotion offers solutions with energy recovery capability up to 180 kW.

At the booth, AMKmotion experts will present a real-world application: the ByCut Eco laser cutting machine by Bystronic. For this application, AMKmotion combined centralized and decentralized components. According to the machine manufacturer, the decentralized design eliminates eleven cables from the energy chain, frees up space in the switch cabinet and meets the requirements for dynamic performance, path and part accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.

AMKmotion will also be showcasing a swivel unit for industrial manufacturing applications at its booth. It demonstrates how processes such as gripping, punching and welding can be performed with high dynamic performance in a compact installation space. The inverter mounted directly on the motor, together with the decentralized power supply, integrated motion controller and synchronous servo motor, forms a compact drive system. This reduces cabling requirements and frees up space in the switch cabinet. At the same time, this solution provides greater flexibility when designing automation tasks.
